Cellphone Horror 2

I used to post my picture on this on-line dating website for singles. It was quite new in our country then and I was adventurous enough to dip my fingers on it. I'm a guy, no harm done (or so I thought again)...

I then received a message from one hot chick! Of course, I browsed through her profile and I found it interesting enough to invite her out for a date (EB ika nga). She may had found me cute enough too to agree (duh, she was the first to send me a message). She just requested for me to pick her up near the Manila bay as, according to her, she loves the feel of the sea breeze and all the romantic notions that go with it (Ayayayaaay, that should had given me a hint na).

And so, I went there on time... She advised me that she was at this particular place. I would easily distinguish her as she was with some kids playing. As I was walking towards that place, from a distance, I saw this woman playing with the kids, doing "jumping jacks", "habulan", types of kids play. "Oh she loves kids, thats nice, but how come she was playing with the squatter kids?" I said to myself. "Maybe she's doing some charity work or something, kaya nya kakilala yung mga kids?".

And then we were face to face with each other. My big surprise... she wasn't the woman on the picture posted at the website! "Oh, so you are stratattack, I'm ****. You look better in person", she said. I could have easily shouted "And you look so much worse in person! Was that picture really you! It looked like you 35 years ago!" but my gentle side surfaced and just blurred out "Oh, so you're ****, you look different in person".

I inquired further, "Do you know these kids?" "Are you in any charitable work?" She just brushed it aside and said, "No, ende (hindi), nakilala ko lang yan dine ngayon! Wala ka pa kaya nagapaglaru mona aku ng habolan!" Wow, she not only lied about her picture and age, she also lied about being this so sophisticated cosmopolitan girl.

Despite all of these, I remained calm and reminded myself to still treat her like a lady. It takes two to tango, as they say. So I invited her to go to where some of my friends were hanging out at that time in Makati. She was all game. Upon arriving at the place and introducing her nicely to my friends, she surprisingly hugged me, kissing my back, and said, "Ok talaga 'to si stratattack (not my real name, of course). First time ko dine e, sama nya ko, ganda pala ditoooo!". I was shocked as she was doing that 'coz: 1) I really don't know her that much yet, 2) I have nothing against illiterate women, in fact, it's never a factor for me, but we were in this quite A-B place where a number of people know me, I could had been given some space "para saluhin sya" if you know what I mean, and 3) it's ok if its the Techie Agbayani look-alike hugging me just like the one at the website, but it was not! It was Techie Agbayani add 50 pounds and 35 years later! She should have not lied in the first place, I could have easily accepted her as she really was.

She became all too sweet that time and all too touchy, but I just had to play it like a gentleman. The worse part was when she started talking about the heartaches she had been going through as if this was our nth date! (oh please spare me!). Like any gentleman, I had to take her home. I was surprise to hear," Yoko sana omuwe, don na lang tayo sa bahay mo" I humbly declined and just took her at her friend's house.

She texted me a couple of times after that, but I just had to decline. On the hindsight, she could have been a good girl buddy. She just needed a little encouragement and push. I could have given her some pointers on how to feel good about herself. But she was overdoing it that night, which left me with not so nice, even awkward, memories. I could have also give in and just invited her at my place.... but other experiences of mine dictate that it may back fire at me in the long run... (as I would share in the future).... "til next time....
